On August 9, Bill Kurtis of Through the Decades turns the lens of time back to 1969 for the horrific murder of actress Sharon Tate and six other innocents at the behest of deranged cult leader Charles Manson. Ellee Pai Hong reminisces on the fire prevention messages relayed by Smokey the Bear on the day of the character's creation in 1944. Bill recalls the day in 2000 that Ford Motor Company and Bridgestone-Firestone faced the wrath of their customers after recalling more than six million tires. Ellee goes back to 1898 for the day diesel was patented by Dr. Rudolf Diesel, and Bill reflects on the storied partnership between Winston Churchill and Franklin D. Roosevelt on the day in 1941 that the two leaders ended a mysterious strategic conference.
